This is the unique original Gouache painting by Severino Baraldi.

His last battle was fought against the Spanish in the Canary Islands. His little fleet escaped almost unscathed, while the wrecks of the Spanish galleons littered the harbour at Santa Cruz. Sorely wounded in the conflict, Blake was to die before reaching home.

Robert Blake was one of the most important military commanders of the Commonwealth of England, and one of the most famous English admirals of the 17th century.

This is the original artwork for illustration on p10 of Look and Learn issue no 858 (24 June 1978).
