This is the unique original Gouache painting by Harry Green.

Passengers in their bowler hats wait for a local train as a Great Northern express thunders through, drawn by one of the famous Stirling "singles". The picture also shows the badges of the Great Northern (top) and Midland Railways.

The insets show the London and North Western Precedent Class locomotive (left) and a Kirtley freight engine, with its three pairs of driving wheels, in the red Midland livery.

This is the original artwork for illustration on pages 16-17 of Look and Learn issue no 971 (18 October 1980).
