Part six of the series Famous Rivers - The Severn that was published as the back page of Look and Learn issue 287, published 15th July 1967. We head through Gloucestershire south from Tewksbury and it's Abbey which dates from the 12th Century.

The Battle of Tewksbury in 1471 during the Wars of the Roses re-established Edward IV on the throne. Meanwhile England's largest Saxon church can be found at Deerhurst which contains a carving of a dragon which was believed to have terrorised the locals. There are two connections with America. William Strickland of Apperley joined Cabot's expedition to North America and Button Gwinnett who went on to become State President of Savannah and signed the Declaration of Independence was born in Norton Parish.
